encryption capabilities of the product.
How does disk encryption work?
MySecureDoc™ encrypts the ENTIRE disk. Most
competitors only encrypt the partitions that are being
used on a hard-drive, leaving unencrypted spaces between
partitions, at the beginning and the end of the
hard-drive. This may cause viruses to spread between
partitions and drives. MySecureDoc™ protects all your data
including the residual data, temporary files, paging
files, and hidden partitions. The product encrypts and
decrypts data behind the scenes and in real-time; users
will not even notice the process taking place.
How reputable is WinMagic Inc. ?
WinMagic Inc. has been in business since 1997. Its
SecureDoc line of products are the only token based disk
encryption certified by the NSA. The Personal Edition uses
the same FIPS 140-1 level 2 validated cryptographic engine
as our certified Professional Edition, and incorporates
the AES 256-bit encryption algorithm certificate number 1
(ONE) issued by the National Institute of Standard and
Technology (NIST). SecureDoc™ is the first and only disk
encryption to be used for Homeland Security
Presidential Directive 12 (HSPD-12) and FIPS 201.
What if I lost my authentication password?
SecureDoc Personal Edition comes with two password
utilities to help users retrieve their power on password.

help them remember their power on password.
Self Help Password Recovery – Users create three
questions and answers to help them remember their power on

mode?

support. When a computer goes into power saving
mode, power may be turned off but the computer is still on
stand by. For added security, users will need to be
authenticated once the power is back on.
What is the installation and encryption process like?
Installation of the product is straightforward when disks
are converted over to an encrypted format. The conversion
process can take anywhere from a few minutes to more than
an hour, depending on system speed and drive size.
However, MySecureDoc™ has the ability to be an “install
and forget” solution—install it once and everything takes
place behind the scenes with very little fuss or muss.
Does MySecureDoc protect you from network intrusion?
No, MySecureDoc products will only protect your data from
unauthorized access during power on. The user has to be
authenticated in order to access your hard disk to allow
the Windows OS to start. Once the Windows OS starts, your
computing activities are transparent as MySecureDoc is
working on the background.
Your data is always encrypted during power off to prevent
your hard disk from being accessed using a remote
computer.
Does it support Service pack installations?
Users can install (Microsoft) Service Packs on a
hard-drive that is encrypted by MySecureDoc™. With most of
our competitors’ products, it is necessary to first
decrypt the hard-drive, install the Service Pack and then
re-encrypt the hard-drive. With MySecureDoc™ the user can
leave the hard-drive encrypted while installing the
Service Pack.
Does it support Anti-Virus programs?
Most competitors’ products cannot encrypt the hard-drive
while an anti-virus program is running. With MySecureDoc™,
there is no problem leaving the anti-virus program running
while encrypting the hard-drive.
